MINALOC awards local community innovative solutions

Friday, 01 December - In the presence of local government leaders who attended the official closing of Itorero Isonga in Nkumba, Burera District, the Ministry of Local Government awarded 14 innovators from distinguished districts whose innovations have contributed to solving issues and challenges related to socio-economic development and transformation of local communities in sectors of governance, social protection and economy.

One of the awards went to Habimana Israel who initiated by himself Nyamporogoma hydro electrical power plant. His initiative came as a solution to the issue of lack of access to electricity which was a limiting factor to the community development of Mpanga and Nasho Administrative Sectors of Kirehe District. The project started in 2012 and currently operates to impact the community livelihood benefiting 239 households and other small businesses. Habimana plans extension of electrification to reach more houses.
