Elections in local government leave seven districts with new mayors
On Thursday, ten districts namely Burera, Gakenke, Karongi, Musanze, Nyamasheke, Rubavu, Rutsiro, Rwamagana, Rulindo, Kamonyi conducted elections to fill vacant positions in districts’ Councils and executive committees.
Seven disticts elected new mayors: Mr. Claudien Nsengimana (Musanze), Ms. Soline Mukamana (Burera), Ms. Vestine Mukandayisenga (Gakenke), Mr. Narcisse Mupenzi (Nyamasheke), Ms. Valentine Mukase (Karongi), Mr. Prosper Mulindwa (Rubavu) and Ms. Dative Kayitesi (Rutsiro).
Three districts elected new vice mayors in charge of economic development: Mr. Uwizeyimana Emmanuel (Rutsiro), Ms. Uwanyirigira Clarisse (Musanze) and Kagabo Rwamunono Richards (Rwamagana).
Two districts elected new vice mayors in charge of social affairs: Theobald Kayiranga (Musanze) and Umuganwa Marie Chantal (Rutsiro).
Rulindo and Kamonyi elected only councilors to fill the district councils.
